System Tank Image blog sizePropane is a clean, efficient, affordable way to heat your home and power your daily life.

But when it comes to the tank that holds your propane, some people get confused. What’s the better option: renting or buying?

At Lakes Gas, we prefer leasing tanks. We service and repair leased tanks ourselves, so you never have to worry about it. For this reason, we don’t sell tanks to our residential customers.

But if you just moved into a house with its own tank, that doesn’t mean you’re out of luck. We happily provide propane to customers who own their own tanks. We just don’t service them. So, if you don’t have a tank yet, we highly recommend leasing a tank from us. That way, service and repairs are included in the agreement and not your responsibility. Plus, you always have the peace of mind your propane tank is taken care of.

Here’s what to expect when you lease a tank from us:

First, we’ll determine the size of tank you need. This is dependent on your unique propane needs. What type of propane appliances do you have in your home? What are your heating requirements? Are there any other factors that affect your propane usage?

Then, we’ll draft a lease agreement. It will include your Lakes Gas propane tank, the regulator and outside equipment associated with your propane system. This agreement will require your signature so that both parties are aware of everything entailed in the tank system.

Finally, we’ll place the tank. Our experienced employees know where tanks can and can't be placed. They'll work with you to find the perfect place to put a tank on your property.
