Propane tankHere’s some good news before tax day. Congress just approved a $320 billion two-year budget deal that includes extensions of propane gas credits retroactive through 2017. That means if your home or business used propane through December 31, 2017, you could be eligible for a tax credit.

Here’s more information on what the bill extends, courtesy of PropaneCouncil.org:

  • The Alternative Fuels Excise Tax Credit for the use of propane as transportation fuel, commonly referred to as the "propane autogas tax credit," (retroactive for 2017);
  • The tax credit for the installation of qualified alternative fuel vehicle refueling property in a home or business (retroactive for 2017);
  • The Section 25C tax credit for the installation of qualified high-efficiency residential HVAC systems and certain energy-saving home retrofits (retroactive for 2017).

Read the full text of the individual tax extensions here. You can read the full text of the bill here.
Check with your tax preparer to see if these credits apply to you.
