Howard Sargeant, our president and founder, started his career as an acquisitions director for a major oil company. While searching for independent oil businesses ripe for acquisition, he decided to buy one for himself. In 1959, he purchased the Harguth Oil Company and, with his expertise in acquisitions, grew the small operation in Forest Lake, Minnesota into the 12th largest retail marketer of propane in the U.S.
Lakes Gas became a family business in 1990 when Howard's son, Steve Sargeant, joined the team. As general manager and vice president of Lakes Gas, Steve works closely with his five district managers to ensure efficient, reliable daily operations.
From the beginning, Lakes Gas has stressed the importance of safety. When you become a Lakes Gas customer, we'll make sure you understand how your propane system works and how to properly operate it. Each time we refill your tank, we'll inspect it to make sure it's working properly.
