Howard Sargeant, owner and founder of Lakes Gas, started his career as an acquisitions director for a major oil company. While searching for independent oil businesses ripe for his employer's acquisition, he decided to buy one for himself. In 1959, he purchased the Harguth Oil Company, and, through his expertise in acquisitions, grew the small operation in Forest Lake, Minnesota into the 12th largest retail marketer of propane in the U.S.
Lakes Gas became a family business in 1990 when Howard's son, Steve Sargeant, joined the team. Now President of Lakes Gas, Steve works closely with his five district managers to ensure efficient, reliable daily operations.
Since the beginning, Lakes Gas has stressed the importance of safety. When you become a Lakes Gas customer, we'll teach you how your propane system works and how to operate it. Each time we refill your tank, we'll inspect it to make sure it's working properly.
